The Animal Place internship program is designed to give college students a chance to gain experience with farmed animals in a nonproduction type setting. Most of the students, who receive school credit for their time at the sanctuary, are from neighboring UC Davis.
The internship offers students the rare opportunity to see farmed animals behaving naturally and to observe them living freely. Students can interact with the animals as they participate in their daily care, cleaning, etc.
Interns learn about all aspects of the sanctuary as they work alongside staff members during their typical three-hour morning shift. Additionally, Animal Place gives students information about animal agriculture systems and current welfare concerns. Students are expected to write an in-depth paper exploring at least one current farmed animal issue at the end of their internship.
