Help ban deadly predator poisons
The EPA is currently accepting comments on whether to ban two deadly compounds: sodium cyanide & Compound 1080. Both kill approximately 1.6 animals every hour.

Sodium Cyanide M-44s: Spring-loaded baits that release sodium cyanide when an animal triggers the trap. The animal inhales the poison and dies within two minutes. Dogs, birds, badgers, bears, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and skunks are common targets.

Compound 1080 Livestock Collars: Compound 1080 is highly toxic and causes an incredibly painful, prolonged death, between 3-15 hours. Animals scavenging on carcasses with collars die from the exposure. Carcasses who wore the collar are considered hazardous material.

Predators are not a significant source of livestock loss. More importantly, non-lethal alternatives exist. From fencing to pens to livestock guardians, other ways exist to protect animals from predators.

What you can do:
Submit a comment to the EPA supporting the BAN of sodium cyanide and Compound 1080. These biological warfare agents are dangerous to animals, people and the environment. There are sound alternatives (like fencing) to limit the interaction between wildlife and livestock. Animals exposed to these toxic compounds suffer unnecessarily, particularly those exposed to Compound 1080 that can cause hours of prolonged pain.

Deadline: March 5, 2008
